Our right to vote was hard won with blood and sacrifice, and that is why it is so important to me to cast my ballot. America isn’t perfect, and democracy is messy, often slow, and frustrating — but dictators have no place in our country. We’ve fought too hard to let it fall to fascism now. That is not who we are.
I used to be apolitical at 18 into my 20s and didn’t vote. I don’t know what and when it changed for me — but I’d like to think I realized that my grandfather and uncle, who fought against fascism in World War II, sacrificed so much along with so many others, to protect our country and the world.
I may not agree with everyone’s choice of candidate, but I want everyone to exercise their right to vote on Tuesday, November 5. It was earned in sacrifice and should never be taken for granted. Please be safe this election season.
