That title comes off presumptuous, doesn’t it? I apologize — I just want to share some of my favorite movies! Most times when I talk about them, people have never heard of these films.
Welcome to the first (and maybe only?) part of a series, where I attempt to persuade you to check out these movies, without spoiling anything and refraining from cribbing the descriptions from IMDB or Wikipedia!
1) A Simple Plan (1998) (Billy Bob Thornton, Bill Paxton, Bridget Fonda)
Who doesn’t want to come into millions of dollars? In rural Minnesota, the down-on-their-luck trio of Hank (Paxton), his brother Jacob (Thornton) and friend Lou find a crashed plane, a dead pilot and over four million dollars. No one will miss it, right?
Along with Hank’s wife Sarah (Fonda), they concoct a simple plan to keep the windfall in this neo-noir thriller.

2) The Station Agent (2003) (Peter Dinklage, Michelle Williams, Bobby Cannavale)
Long before he cast a very large shadow in “Game of Thrones”, Peter Dinklage stars in his breakthrough role as Finbar, a taciturn and deeply lonely man who desires to live a solitary existence. When he inherits a broken-down train station from his only friend in the world, Fin’s plans for a quiet life are derailed by the people around him.

3) Hero At Large (1980) (John Ritter, Anne Archer)
I’d hoped to be a super-hero one day, but that never panned out. Where’s a radioactive spider or gamma chair when you need one?!?
