Hi Jack - thank you, and I'm glad you liked it. It's fun to do but time-consuming - I'm working on a longer piece that I hope I can finish before Halloween! I wanted to make sure I could achieve the effect with this short test.

The way I did it was to add a new part in Medium for each section, and then find the id (or name if there wasn't an id) of the section by right-clicking and choosing "Inspect". When I'd located the id or name property of the section, then I went to make a link. You could also put an image after the new part (the three dot separator) or a some text and use that element's ID/Name property.

For example, I just did a brief test with four cardinal direction links. I added a new part, and typed "North Door". I found the name of to be "f429". I pressed Enter a few times and added another new part and typed "East Door" beneath the three dots. This element has a name property of "fe47".

After recording these values, I went to the top and created a link for the North door and the East door. In the link box, I entered "#f429". For the East door, I entered "#fe47". To test these bookmark links, I clicked on the ellipses menu next to the Publish button and chose "Share Draft Link". I copied and pasted this into another browser tab (or a new browser window should work fine). Once I was satisfied that the links worked, I closed the tab/window for the draft link.

I would then repeat that process for however many sections/parts and choices you have. I hope I made sense here! If you do have any questions, please let me know and good luck with your endeavours! If you do find a better way to write an interactive story on Medium, please let me know too :)
